After getting her BA degree, Mala got married to Venu, a diploma holder in civil engineering. A typical Indian housewife like Mala gives her time, energy, mind, body and soul to her family members with the simple and only expectation that they would love her in return. Unfortunately such expectations seldom come true. She met me four years ago.
"Though I try to create harmony at home by giving up every bit of self-respect, my relatives-in-law see that I live in hell. My husband understands my feelings and assures me in private that he loves me. I don't know how long I can put up with this humiliation and meaningless existence." lamented Mala. "All existence has a meaning and your life will be heavenly if you create prosperity in your life. Why don't you ask your husband to do something that will restore your dignity and individuality?" I asked her.
"We think if we break away from our joint family and are on our own, our problem will be solved. But, my husband earns just Rs.2,500 a month. We will never be able to live comfortably with it if we move out. If only we could earn a few thousand Rupees more, we will be able to start a new life. My sister is lucky. She is living in the USA with her husband happily," said Mala.
"I cannot advise you on how to break away from your joint family. However, I can tell you how to make money through the Internet. Please understand that making a few thousand Rupees a month through self-employment is within the reach of all. The customer would think he is dealing with you. You make profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price. You can sell high quality, best brand-name products on your web site for a decent profit, while your principal takes care of order fulfillment. Some principals even process the payment for you. For example, you set up a website to sell digital cameras. A visitor comes to your website and wants to buy a latest model digital camera for $600. He gives his personal, shipment and credit card details to you. You then email this information to your wholesaler. He ships the camera to the customer in your name and charges you $450. A year later Mala sent an email to me: 'I thought if I had a regular income of Rs.5,000, I could subscribe to a chit to get Rs.50,000 when we move to a new house. So, I started a drop shipping website. After five months of hard work, my earnings crossed Rs.10,000 a month. I invested all the money in a chit. Recently my husband received a job offer from a Dubai based Construction Company at a salary of Rs.35,000 a month. The agent asked for Rs.1,00,000 towards his commission. We were able to pay him easily and get the job. Without creating any disharmony, I was able to get out of the hell and come to Dubai. As I am working through the Internet, my business continues to grow as it did in India.'
